Chiropractic Care

person getting neck adjustmentChiropractic care is a branch of the medical field that concerns itself with the spine and nervous system. Your spine has 24 freely movable bones, and in between each one of these bones there is a spinal nerve. These spinal nerves connect your brain to every part of your body—every single organ, cell and tissue—and if there are misalignments in the spine, it puts pressure on those nerves and causes those areas of the body to become less healthy. Over time, this results in disease.

Our job at RiverTowne Family Chiropractic is to check your posture, evaluate your spine and nervous system, and identify any areas of subluxation or nervous interference. We then apply a chiropractic adjustment (a specific thrust) into that area to put the bone back in place and remove the pressure on the nerve. When the nerve interference is removed, your body can heal itself.

Our Approach to Care

Our chiropractors, Dr. Bickmeyer and Dr. Mikos, have decades of experience in many different adjusting techniques. They’ll tailor care specifically to your needs and goals, using such methods as Chiropractic BioPhysics® (CBP®), Diversified, Thompson, and the Webster Technique.

We offer care for patients of all ages, from newborns through seniors, and we use lighter force techniques for any patients who need a more gentle approach. Even patients with osteoporosis can receive safe adjustments that are gentle and comfortable for them. Along with chiropractic adjustments, we may recommend non-surgical spinal decompression therapy, especially for patients with disc problems. We also offer electric muscle stimulation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is chiropractic care safe?
Yes, with a proper examination and X-rays, chiropractic care is extremely safe, even safer than taking an aspirin.

Are there any specific conditions chiropractic is particularly effective for?

Chiropractic adjustments are effective for conditions like low back pain, neck pain, headaches, sciatica, gut issues, fibromyalgia, and so many more. Kids benefit from adjustments for issues like ADD/ADHD, ear infections, and sensory problems.

How does chiropractic care differ from traditional medical treatment? Can the two complement each other?

Chiropractic focuses on restoring function from the inside out, whereas traditional medicine takes an outside-in approach, often relying on medications or surgery. Both can complement each other in a comprehensive healthcare plan.

What should I expect during my first chiropractic visit? Will it hurt?

Your first adjustment is quick and typically doesn’t hurt, although you might experience some soreness as your body adjusts.

How often should I get chiropractic adjustments? Is there a recommended schedule?

The frequency depends on your condition. Initially, you might need adjustments three times a week, with wellness visits reduced to weekly or bi-weekly as your spine improves.
Can chiropractic care help with chronic pain? If so, how long might it take to see results?
Yes, results typically begin within 4-6 weeks, with functional improvement over time.

What is the difference between a chiropractor and an osteopath?

Chiropractors focus on specific adjustments to remove nerve interference, while osteopaths are medical doctors with little manipulation training.

Can chiropractic care help with headaches and migraines? How does it work?

Yes, by relieving nerve pressure, chiropractic care can reduce the frequency and intensity of headaches and migraines.

Is chiropractic care at your practice covered by insurance?

Many insurance plans cover chiropractic care, but they often have high deductibles and only allow limited visits. We offer care plans that are usually more affordable.

Can children benefit from chiropractic care? What about infants?

Absolutely! We say, “Adjusted from birth, healthy for life!”
